Bebington High jump in with SwimStars

It was the turn of Bebington High’s Year 7 students this week to show us how it’s done as they took part in our Learn to Swim Schools Programme.

Bebington High Sports College joined us again this month, to work through their annual swimming programme which sees non-swimmers in the secondary school given intensive lessons to teach them this valuable life skill. And the results were amazing!

Over two weeks at Total Fitness Prenton, both male and female pupils joined our school swimming delivery team each day where they were aiming to complete their 25m, having not achieved it by the time they finished Key Stage 2. In 10 sessions, they achieved an outstanding 100% attainment of the 25m National Curriculum standard for their female group, and an impressive 85% for their male pupils.

When the kids were asked to describe the week in one word, they said: “Amazing,” “Marvellous,” “Challenging,” and “Confident.”

Director Steve Parry was equally impressed with the results, commenting: “Swimming is such an important life skill, no matter how old you are, and for these secondary pupils to put themselves forward for swimming lessons is a really impressive feat. Bebington High Sports College deserve a lot of credit for their commitment to their pupils through this programme, and I hope this can inspire more schools to take swimming seriously!”

The Sport and Health Development Leader, Kevin Byrne also called the week “a resounding success”, saying the children “thoroughly enjoyed the programme” and “all feel more confident in the water”.

A huge well done to all the students at Bebington, the school staff for all their help and of course to our incredible SwimStars team for all their hard work!
